Lower Margins but Expanding Operations Hansavivek GWALIOR RAYON's working results for 1977-78 were severely affected by an 'illegal' lightning strike at the pulp division at Mavoor in Kerala, which started on November 30, 1977 and ended on August 2, 1978. This, the directors claim, not only caused a loss of production worth Rs 10 crores up to the end of March last, but also led to "Further losses because the company had to import pulp at a substantially higher cost Loss of profit was therefor expected on the sale of ray on grade pulp to other rayon manufacturers. Besides, payment of extra in- pives and revision in the workers' term agreements at the workers divisions involved further expenditure of over Rs 2 crores during the year. Production of pulp at Mayoor was only 38,800 tonnes
