WEST BENGAL Waiting for Doomsday THE Calcutta-Haldia port complex awaits its doomsday. Every year the situation only gets worse; the traffic falls or remains stagnant but costs keep on rising. At this rate the viability of the port would soon be in danger. If nature has played a part in this story of the death of a port, man has done no less. But time is running out fast and unless immediate action is taken, the complex may have to be written off. Nothing would be more disastrous for the economy of West Bengal and, for that matter, for the entire eastern region.
