Right now, the CPI (M) seems to be more concerned about the stability of the Janata party than even the Janata party leaders: its leaders have been indulging in a lot of anguished handwringing over the Janata party's internal problems, and even the CPI(M) Politbureau has come out with a statement expressing its 'deep concern' over the recent developments in the Janata party and government. Clearly, the CPI(M), for its own reasons, has apparently decided that the pressing need of the hour is to ensure the stability of the government at the Centre; in which endeavour, it is prepared to keep in abeyance its own demands for a fresh look at the whole gamut of Centre-state relations.
