Fleecing the Grower THE Committee on Public Undertakings, under the chairmanship of the indefatigable Jyotirmoy Bosu, has caused quite a stir by demanding, in a report presented to the Lok Sabha last month, that the minimum statutory price of raw jute be raised to Rs 447.64 per quintal from the present level of Rs 141. However, in another report (Sixth Lok Sabha, Third Report), also presented last month, the Committee has produced some telling evidence of the all-round exploitation of jute growers. The Committee has examined in detail the following aspects of the exploitation of jute growers :
