industry is well established in the country. A wide range of products like tooth paste, tooth powder, lace powder, cream, shampoo, etc, are being produced by a large number of units both in the organised as well as in the small-scale sector. In the organised sector, the industry is presently dominated by foreign concerns and MRTP houses." That is not all. The report claims further that "during 1977. there has been general .increase in production of these items over the production of 1976. Production of cosmetic and toilet products is now based mostly on indigenous raw materials except for imports of peppermint oil, Iris Mose extract, a few perfumery chemicals, etc, required to maintain the quality of the products. The import content of this industry constitutes now 2 to 4 per cent of the factory value of production". All of this is said in the most nonchalant manner.
