Punnapra-Vayalar-Rewriting History
December 31, 1977 A Correspondent writes :
ACCORDING to the imperialists and their historians, the first armed struggle of' the people of India against British imperialism in 1857 was a 'Sepoy Mutiny'. Similarly, when in 1921 the poor peasants of South Malabar, as part of the national liberation movement which had gained strength and momentum as a result of Congress- Khilafat unity, conducted their freedom struggle, British imperialism called it the Moplah revolt and suppressed it. And now Home Minister Charan Singh has decided that the historic Punnapra- Vayalar struggle is not to be regarded as part-of the national movement.
