Third General Elections S S Bhattacharya IN the recent general elections in Indonesia whose final results were out on May 2, 1977, the ruling Golkar Party retained its majority. Of the 360 seats contested, Golkar ('Functional Groups') captured 232 seats and secured 62.13 per cent of the votes polled; the Development Unity Party (Partai Persatuan Pembangunam) got 99 seats and obtained 29.21 per cent of the votes, while the Indonesian Democratic Party (Partai Demokrasi Indonesia) got 29 seats with 8.66 per cent of the votes polled. In the outgoing Parliament, the Golkar, the Development Unity Party and the Indonesian Democratic Party had 236, 94 and 30 seats respectively; in other words, the distribution of representation in Parliament among these parties has remained more or less the same.
