Letters to Editor Technology and Change

IN his article "Technology and Change in Underdeveloped Societies" (August 28, 1976) Vinod Vyasulu has written perspicaciously about the dilemma faced by developing countries in ad-opting 'modern' technology and the lurking dangers in its adoption as it perpetuates their underdevelopment in-stead of leading to a better life. Pro-ceeding from this premise, the author offers a solution in the shape of 'inter-mediate technology' but discards it no sooner than he 'adopts' it and then shifts to the new concept of 'alterna-tive technology' which, according to the author, deals not only with the technical aspects but also with the socio-economic and political aspects,
