Reading it, one would imagine that the history of the CBI is nothing but a series of triumphs, of investigations successfully under taken, prosecutions successfully launch' ed, convictions successfully obtained. However, the few details about the convictions successfully obtained during the year under review, presented in Appendix 111, deserve a closer look in that they illustrate, perhaps even with out intending to do so, some of the anomalies in the actual functioning of our criminal jurisprudence.
