Politics, and the Direction Romesh Thapar THE Janata party decision to place its new supporter, Dinesh Singh, former Foreign Minister of Indira Gandhi, in the Rajya Sabha, is only one revealing insight into the Capi- tal's political play. At another level, we have Indira Gandhi herself inten sively lobbying with Congress MPs, MLAs and the like to win support possibly as the party's presidential nominee at the next AICC, if only Sanjay could be wished away! The triumph of Sheikh Abdullah in Kash mir over all the parochial, communal elements, Muslim and Hindu alike, is also a salutary slap in the face for the Janata leadership; regional parties are beginning to see an independent fu ture for themselves.
