For this crime, he and Ins father got a heavy heating from the money- lender. Frightened by this incident, Hainesh ran away from the village. His parents paid the money-lender Rs 300 in cash and 3 maunds of paddy (worth Rs 150 according to the official price). That is. in all, Rs 450. Still the moneylender claims that the balance of the loan is Rs 1,200. For the last two years, Ramesh has been staying away from his home. To seek protection under the law against bonded labour, Ramesh made an application on November 15. 1976, to the tehsildar; but still at the time of writing this, Ramesh has not dared touch the boundary of his village.
