CPI- Search for Alibis

(By a Special Correspondent) CPI THE resolution on the Lok Sabha elections adopted by the National Council of the Communist Party of India at its meeting on April 3-6 shows that while the party has at least made a modest beginning, however inadequate, at some sort of self-criticism of what it calls its "mistaken understanding of the Emergency", it still continues to harbour many of the earlier hopes and illusions about the Congress Party, In fact, the resolution seems to be more concerned with trying to find excuses for the defeat of the Congress Party than for the debacle of the CPI, There is nothing in the resolution to indicate that the CPI leadership has had any second thoughts about the essential correctness of the political line it has adopted all these years.
