comprise five broad segments: (1) the Congress(O); (2) former Congressmen, like Charan Singh and Biju Patnaik and their followers, and sections of the Swatantra Party and the Socialist Party (the BLD); (3) Jan Sangh; (4) Socialist Party; (5) JP's supporters in the Congress like Chan- drasekhar, Mohan Dharia and Krishna Kant, who were expelled during the Emergency and who have joined the Janata Party. The CFD's long-term plan might well be to bring about the disintegration of the Janata Party by operating through the fifth component.
