But the poor need not be altogether downcast. There is a distinct gain for them too. Many of the romantic notions about the nature of the Government are now dispelled. The Government is not a neutral entity in the manner of the referee in a soccer match. It is part of the system. It articulates the wishes and predilections of the ruling class. Samachar is monopolised by the ruling party; of course it will be. The radio is monopolised by the ruling party; that is as it should be. the television programmes are echoes of the ruling party's electioneering slogans; what else did you expect?
