The Nanded municipality which had come under the rule of the Muslim League through a popular mandate was summarily suspended. This, in addition to forced sterilisation, has caused much illwill among Muslims in Nanded city. The opposition candidate Dhondage, has been a member of the state assembly for 20 years. He has been running a free college and a number of high schools. Apart from representing the assembly constituency of Kandhar, his party's work extends to another assembly constituency, Ahmedpur. Dhondage has gathered the support of backward communities while in Nanded city proper college teachers and students of the Janata Party are working for him.
