Higher Production, Lower Profit

Higher Production, Lower Profit Hansavivek ASSOCIATED CEMENT COMPANIES achieved last year the highest figures in production and sales of cement in its 40-year career and yet made a lower profit than in the previous year. Its production of cement at 62.66 lakh tonnes was higher by 4.71 lakh tonnes over the previous year and sale at 63.40 lakh tonnes was higher by 5.21 lakh tonnes. Total net sales were over 11 per cent better compared to 1974' 75, while gross profit plumetted by nearly 35 per cent. This outcome is attributed to increases in costs of production, uncompensated by increase in be controlled price of cement. Net profit is nearly halved, with the result that even dividend lowered by two points to 12 per cent is not covered by earnings.
