Following this, the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly recommended that Vietnam be admitted to the United Nations, with 124 of the 145 member nations voting for the re- solution, and the US' alone voting Against it The US has been consistently opposing Vietnam's entry into the UN, and the arguments it has trotted out in support of its stand have the fla- vour of the bygone days of John Fos- ter Dulles; Vietnam, according the US agreement, has to 'qualify' for becoming a member of the UN, and this it has failed to do, since it has not 'satisfactorily' accounted for the 'missing- in-action' US forces in that country. Considering the truly incalculable ernel- ty and destruction perpetrated by the Americans in Vietnam over the years, this posture of the injured party surely indicates the gall the US is capable of.
