Cuba- US Flexes Its Muscles

FEATURE of US election politics that has been frequently noted is that while the two major parties try to project and often do represent alternatives in their programmes for their own people, in the field of foreign policy, a broad bi-panisanism has always prevailed. This is perhaps inevitable, for more than with most countries, it is inescapable for a superpower like the US to pursue goals which have necessarily to remain constant, despite periodical changes in administration. But a peculiar fea- the of the current election campaign has been that it is the alleged differences in foreign policy that are being highlighted, rather than the very real differences that exist between the two candidates over the management of domestic resources, attitudes towards labour, unemployment, social security, etc.
