Corporate Sector- Fruits of Inflation

1974-75 was a year to remember. According to the Reserve Bank's study of the finances of large and medium public limited companies, the results of which are published in the latest (July 1976) issue of the Bank's Bulletin, the value of production of the 1,650 companies covered (each with a paid- up capital of Rs 5 lakhs or more) rose by 28.9 per cent in 1974-75 and their profits after tax by 35.1 per cent. What makes these figures even more significant as indicators of the private corporate sector's well-being is that the preceding year too had been an altogether satisfactory one, having witnessed increases in after-tax profits of 21.1 per cent and in the value of output of 11.2 per cent.
