February 22, 1975 OR does it sound unduly patronising? Some congratulations are indeed in order. The recently installed Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, P N Haksar, is obviously suffering from no delusions of grandeur; he has come out with the wry confession that he is the latest sacrificial lamb at the altar of the Commission and his day of reckoning is bound to come. Others may condemn him for his cynicism; theists will rage at him. These latter, after all, do have a point: if he is so certain of his unsuccess, why did he bother to join? Even so, congratulations are in order. In that don of hypocrisy, otherwise known as the Government of India, candour is such a rare commodity.
