December 27, 1975 SWEDEN Doing Business with Apartheid SWEDEN, their affluent Scandinavian social democracy, is the very archetype of a liberal, conscientious country. On such matters the, US aggression in Vietnam, the racialist policies of minority regimes in Rhodesia and South Africa, hunger and want in Asia and Africa, the position of the blacks in the US, etc, the Swedish government has consistently taken a 'progressive' stand. Public opinion in Sweden is even more 'progressively"' outspoken than the Swedish government on these and related questions. In fact, the image of Sweden as a country that represents, in its domestic and foreign policies, all that is noble in the intellectual and political tradition of the West is generally taken lor granted.
