 officers who dug themselves in at a Junior Officers' School in Santiago were wiped out after resistance lasting four days. Other officers who refused to support the coup were murdered. The leaders of regiments which mutinied in Santiago and in the provinces were physically liquidated. The Commandant of the Armoured Unit in Vina del Mar, Colonel Cantuarias, was machine-gunned by his subordinates.
