They even insisted on inducting MECON for their part of the Korba aluminium project, displacing the National Industrial Development Corporation which had been working on this project on the Indian side since its inception and was known to have done good work and acquired a degree of expertise in the field. Yet the Russians favoured MECON even though non-ferrous metallurgy is not its main field.
