The coup is a conclusive indication that the guerilla movements, particularly FRE- LIMO in Mozambique and PAIGC in Guinea (Bissau), have got the upper hand in the fighting. No colonial army seeks political compromises unless its will to continue fighting is finally broken. This now appears to have happened to the Portuguese army.
