Synthetic Fibres- No Case for Tax Cut

DESPITE the so-called crash programmes of employment and the more recent rise in the index of industrial production, the gap between the growth of employment opportunities and the expansion of the working force continues to grow bigger. And so what should the Working Committee of the Congress party do but issue a statement asking for 5 lakh jobs to be created for the educated unemployed next year. And what should the government do but let it be known that the next Budget would include a provision of Rs 200 crores or so for providing jobs for the educated Jobless. This, it is conceded with becoming modesty, would not create 5 lakh jobs but it would be a very large increase over the Rs 12 crores earmarked for the purpose in the current year's budget.
