He also let it be known that his nominees had the support of the Prime Minister and that he was now leading a pro-Indira Gandhi faction in the party against the pro-Y B Chavan faction. This created a vertical division in the party and many members, including senior ministers of the state cabinet, indicated to Y B Chavan that they would be unwilling to oppose the wishes of the Prime Minister.
