Price of Modernisation, Diversification Hansavivek BOMBAY DYEING experienced a sharp contraction of margins during 1971, as reflected in a 4 per cent decline in gross profit (after taking away the nonrecurring gain of its 45 lakhs against Rs 8 lakhs on sale of land) despite a 27 per cent advance in sales. The increase in sales value is attributed to increased cost of manufacture, particularly on account of the higher prices of cotton, as well as further diversification of the product-mix
