Urban Guerillas in Calcutta

August 14, 1971 interests of the USSR and India conflict. It can be truly said that friendship between our two peoples is "a natural". Yet, psychological gaps, servilities of various description, the lack of genuine comradeship in international economic and political relations, and many other related matters, can wreck attempts to build friendship and mutual assistance between peoples. The USA is a standing example of a nation that has destroyed its goodwill by its own acts. The carnage in Vietnam is a monument to its madness. The USSR, too, has been unable to win lasting friendships. The treatment given to courageous Yugoslavia, the costly split with China, the cynical thrashing of Czechoslovakia, the boorishness which marks relations with East Europe are danger signals. Maybe, corrections will develop. But India had better be on guard.
