Delhi this week, on the eve of the second anniversary of the nationalisation of banks, makes the claim that "the story of the public sector banks ... continues to be one of all round progress and sustained growth". This progress and growth are sought to be measured in terms of three indicators, chiefly: increase in deposits, branch expansion and growth of advances to the 'neglected sectors'.
