Withering Commonwealth Link NEW DELHI IS the process of the withering away of the Commonwealth link, which has been going on for long, nearing its completion? The notice served by the UK Government for terminating the Indo-UK Trade Agreement of 1938 by the end of the year would seem to suggest so. This agreement and the preferential relationship in trade which it represented form probably the most tangible element left in India's membership of the Commonwealth. Once this disappears, the argument for quitting the Commonwealth will become overwhelmingly powerful.
