By Turnkey Jobs and Exports

KAMANI ENGINEERING'S exports aggregated Rs 818 lakhs in 1969-70; in 1965-66, the company's exports were only Rs 16 lakhs. In recognition of its achievement, the Engineering Export Promotion Council awarded the company a certificate for outstanding export performance. FICCI honoured it similarly. The company has maintained its lead in the export of transmission line towers and overseas turnkey projects. One such project, of about 500 km of 220 kV transmission line in the Middle East, has been awarded to it recently despite keen competition from the West; two more are expected from S E Asia and North Africa. Total value of these orders will be about Rs 15 crores. The company has made some pioneering, innovative efforts to expand and diversify its activities. It has developed certain structural items required in aviation and certain specialised items needed for rural electrification. The project for setting up a rolling mill is making progress, and is expected to be commissioned before the end of the year. This would enhance KEC's capacity to take up larger export commitments.
