ANDHRA-To Acquire a Steel Plant

THE Visakhapatnam steel plant project is encountering a series of hurdles which indicate just how firm were the economic considerations on which the steel plant was originally conceded to the State. Today's ditherings may lead, first, to considerable delay in the completion of the preliminary work including selection of a site and completion of a feasibility study, and secondly, to considerable delay in the plant's construction and commissioning. The prospect is disconcerting to many who have been expecting that the feasibility report would be available in 1972. Disappointment is again likely to generate indignation, especially since the foundation of the Salem steel plant in Tamil Nadu has been laid this month. Who or what is responsible for the emerging situation?
