It seems that the effete leaders of the Alliance, which in effect means the top men of the Malay party of the Alliance, the United Malays National Organisation, have reacted after more than a year of authoritarian government by now allowing only restricted political activity and barring politics from those very subjects which the non- Malays feel require drastic rethinking, Malay political privileges are declared to be outside the realm of politics while the indications are that the economic plan will, as Abdul Razak said in his national day message, attempt to "permanently remove . . . the economic disequilibrium which cuts along racial lines". In fact, the emphasis, if Malaysia in to be a harmonious society, should have been on the economic imbalances which cut across racial lines.
