Area and Yield Variability in Parabhani District

Area and Yield Variability in Parabhani District D K Sohoni IRRIGATION facilities arc very meagre in Parabhani district of Maharashtra. The area under irrigation forms only 1.4 per cent of the net sown area. Cotton, jowar, wheat and groundnut are the main crops but rice and bajra are also grown. Agricultural production is, therefore, entirely exposed to the uncertainties of nature. Average annual rainfall is 821 mm (or about 32 inches). Of this total annual precipitation, about 84 per cent occurs during the months of June, July, August and September, and there are considerable variations in the distribution of rainfall even within this period.
