This new priestly class, which revels in a certain abstract, aimless militancy, is convinced of its own revolutionary superiority over those whom it suspects to be less Lohiaite than itself. Lohia's favourite caste analysis is thus ironically the key to un derstanding the divisions within the SSP! The SSP will not, to be sure, break up. But what is unfortunate about its present state is that it means the decline of the only Leftist party worth the name in UP and Bihar. The SSP's performance in the mid-term elections in these two States bears this out.
