Planning Educational Programmes Implications of Population Trends Mahendra Kumar Premi Urbanisation will help to raise literacy and school enrolment, while industrialisation will help in reducing rural-urban differentials in literacy rates. On the other hand, expansion of compulsory education will cause a rise in age at marriage, especially of girls. A combination of these three factors is likely to reduce fertility which, in turn, will help to make provision for school facilities a little easier.
