Asian Emigres ASIANS who had settled in East Africa or were desoendants of original settlers were, in the best of times, suspect in the eyes of the local people. Now that all the British colonies have become independent, Asians find themselves in a most anomalous position. Some of them qualified for local citizenship when the colonies became free, but few apparently availed themselves of the opportunity.
