BHUTAN Defence with Democracy DRUK Gyalpo, Jigme Dorji Wangchuk, King of Bhutan, recently announced his intention to introduce democracy in Bhutan's monarchic setup. How eager the king is to install the new form of government is clear in his ultimatum that, should the Bhutanese National Assembly, the Tsongdu, not agree to constitutional monarchy, he will abdicate. The announcement was made in a closed- door meeting of the Tsongdu which met here on November 15 for its 31st session.
