COOPER ENGINEERING invested about Rs 1 lakh in the share capital of a French company, C I C V Henry Hamelle, and also advanced to it about Rs I lakh towards working capital to "farther the export business" of its machinotools in Franco and coun-tries aided by France. The French company itself has gone into liquida-tion as a result of "some internal strife", and its affairs are now conducted by a government-appointed liquidator. The management says that Cooper Engin-eering entered into its arrangement with the French company after satisfying it-self about its status and capacity through independent inquiries. "Adequate Steps" have been taken to realise as much as possible out of the investment. Never-theless, the amount of deposit towards working capital has been shown as "doubtful" in the accounts.
