Nearly all the drought-hit areas reported some rain which should provide a measure of relief to the withering kharif crops and also improve the prospects for rabi sowings. But the agricultural prospect is still uncertain. Since kharif crops have already suffered considerable irreparable damage, the performance of the agricultural sector during 1968-69 is likely to fall short of the previous season's achievement, indicating that the much-talked-about breakthrough in agriculture continues to be at the mercy of the unpredictable weather.
