The justification for the new prices is not obvious. All collieries have not accepted the wage board awards, and so higher labour cost cannot be used as a strong argument. In any event, costs and cost increases cannot be said to be uniform for all collieries. The price increases demanded represent much higher percentages over pit-head costs, which are about half the delivered costs.
