WITH the inauguration of Hindustan Zinc Smelter at Debari, near Udaipur, on February 16, India has joined the small group of countries producing lead and zinc. India spends annually Rs 60 crores on the import of lead and zinc metal. The commissioning of the zinc smeiter will now enable the country to effect substantial saving in foreign ex-change.
