PARIS Future of Higher Education THE Faculty of Science of the University of Paris planned to accomodate 3,000 students this autumn in the first year of the medical course. When 5.600 candidates presented themselves, the dean closed down the registration and called for a system of selection. This exasperated the students who were not able to sign up. In the end. the Government provided extra funds so that additional classes could be organised for all the applicants in medicine as well as in biology, chemistry and geology which were also overwhelmed. Some of the hastily arranged laboratory sections would be held in a secondary school more than an hour out of Paris
