Behind the Jayanti Swindle

Now that Dr Dharam Teja is reported to be on a motoring tour of Europe, the Government seems to be seriously considering filing suits against him in different countries, Yet when he was in Delhi only two months ago no steps were taken to prevent him from leaving. The Jayanti affair began in 1960, when Teja, claiming to be a non-resident Indian, put forward a proposal to the Government to acquire eight bulk-carriers and three oil-cum-orc carriers aggregating to about 275,000 tons deadweight for a total cost of Rs 22.50 crores on a deferred payment basis.
