It is difficult to speak of Demonetisation as an event in history. It is too recent, too pervasive and its effects continue to be felt, and yet it is not fully understood. However, a year after the event, we can be certain that demonetisation was ill-conceived and that it had adverse effects on the economy and the poor. Most importantly, it did not address the problems of black economy in any substantial manner.
