The extent of spread of HIV/AIDS among those who migrate to Mumbai from Uttar Pradesh, as well as among their families, has not been fully acknowledged. More initiatives are necessary to provide information about the sources of infection to those at risk, as well as create awareness about counselling and testing. Unless immediate action is taken, UP will be pushed into a health situation that will be difficult to handle.

The strategy of freezing the population factor to 1971 levels in deciding Finance Commission awards has been successful in denying states with higher rates of growth of population the benefit of a larger proportion of resources. The penalised states, however, include most of the least developed regions of India. Moreover, this policy dilutes the importance of the population as an indicator of the needs of a state; it also lacks an explicit mechanism to encourage states to curb high rates of growth of population.

A Survey of Census Enumerators Murali Dhar Vemuri Data collected in a population census is usually evaluated by a post enumeration survey, the purpose of which is to mainly indicate the extent of net omission. Other errors that are generated during census data collection are, however, not evaluated. As the census figures are often used without critically examining the data, an analysis of the process by which data are obtained can identify the errors generated.
