Political Situation Leokadia Drobizheva Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russian ethnic consciousness and attitude to ethnic relations have undergone significant transformation. This paper examines how Russian attitudes altered in various ethno-political situations involving decisive political change, with leaders of national movement scorning to power in the former Soviet republics, and the partocratic structures under threat. The paper also probes the extent to which Russian attitude could influence the political situation in the new states.
