Issues in an Energy Policy for India Report on a Workshop Kapil Thukral THE international oil scene and its implications for India's energy policy, specifically in the context of the Seventh Plan, were discussed a two-day workshop in Jaipur on July 14 and 15. The workshop was sponsored by the Department of Petroleum, Government of India, and was organised by the Tata Energy Research Institute, which intends to make this an annual event and to invite participants from other developing countries in the future, In his inaugural address. Union Minister of Energy, Shiv Shankar, emphasised that India's energy policy should focus on diversifying away from oil by striking a balance between coal and power in the medium term and increasing the role of new and renewable forms of energy in the long run.
