Low Wages and Fast Food

Even as American fast food chains like McDonald's gain popularity in countries like India, in the US their workers are waging a bitter struggle for a higher minimum wage, better working conditions and the right to unionise. This article locates the "Fight for $15" campaign of American fast food workers within the larger context of workers' struggles in that country.

The Ferguson Verdict

The reactions to the grand jury’s verdict in the Ferguson case has proved that the US government is incapable of understanding the growing resentment against racial divide and inequity in the country. A group of students from St Louis trace the events from days before the trial to the mood after the verdict. 

Race in Contemporary America

In all spheres today, a covert institutionalised racism can be witnessed in the United States, denying the black community access to opportunities and privileges enjoyed by the white majority. The killing of Michael Brown, an unarmed 18-yearold African American, by a white police officer in St Louis is symptomatic of this malaise afflicting American society.
