The French government has legislated a shorter work-week for large enterprises. The arithmetic is simple: if existing workers work less, the same amount of work will be done by more workers. The economics is simpler: workers with leisure and those with new employment will spend and raise aggregate demand, thus pulling the economy out of the current recession.
